“Cornell Capa: Concerned Photographer”: This exhibit takes a look at a major figure in New York photography—International Center of Photography founder Cornell Capa. Capa, who died in May, shot extensively for Magnum and Life magazines, documenting such diverse subjects as the abject poverty in Latin America and the first 100 days of JFK’s administration. Motivated by a desire to educate people and to change the world through photography, Capa “saw the human element and drama unfold—but with great humor,” says ICP assistant curator Cynthia Young. “He was a humanist who saw the lightness in some of these very serious situations.” Sept 19–Jan 4, 2009. 1133 Sixth Ave at 43rd St (212-857-9700, icp.org)
