“Breakin’ is a memory,” one skate punk contemptuously observed in 1986’s Thrashin’. Time would prove that fool wrong, of course—break dancing continues to thrive as B-boys and B-girls regularly battle for dance floor supremacy. On Sat 28, the World Breakdancing League pits 16 different crews against one another in a three-on-three tournament at the Educational Alliance Downtown Community Center ( www.worldbreakdancingleague.com ). Reppin’ for the Florox Crew, Andy Choi, 24, showed us how to bust a move.

Step 1: Get inverted
“Before you start,” says Choi, “stretch out your dominant arm, which will be holding up your weight. Then kick up with your hips to move your body off the ground.” (Easy for you to say, fly guy.)

Step 2: Handstand
“Practice handstands against a wall until you get a decent sense of balance,” advises Choi. “Also, doing handstand push-ups is a great way to build requisite shoulder and back muscles. You’ll have to get high in a handstand to have your hips and torso in line with your arm.”

Step 3: Pike
Holy impressive! “Twist your free arm and shoulder around and reach up for your knees or toes,” says Choi. “If done correctly, your weight should still be balanced over your arm, allowing you to hold the freeze.” If done incorrectly, your wrist might snap in half.

Step 4: B-boy pose
“The whole thing is a performance,” says Choi. “Exude confidence!” And by confidence, he means arms crossed, face smug and the ’tude in check.
