Dear Old Schooler: I’m terrified of roaches, bedbugs and anything else that crawls. My friends laugh—they say, “Move out of New York then!”—but it’s a serious phobia. How do I get over it?—Rose W.H., 26, Greenpoint, Brooklyn

How about some therapy? Maybe something happened to you as a child that makes you so frightened. We’re in New York, you know, and these creepy-crawly creatures live in New York, too. The only way to keep them at bay is to have an exterminator come once a month and to put those little roach traps around. If you keep them in the house all the time, you won’t see them because they won’t be there; they’ll be dead. And don’t clutter! You can’t have any clutter because the roaches, they like clutter. No clutter. This city is wonderful, but there are certain things you have to put up with, you know? If you love the city as much as I do, you put up with ’em!
