FRIDAY | SATURDAY | SUNDAY | SUMMER ENTERTAINING
SATURDAY JULY 5
Warm Up
When: 3pm
Where: P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center
$10
Saturdays were made for gyrating to international DJs right by a Public Farm. What better time to go than the kickoff for this series of immense soirees, with Nublu Orchestra and Butch Morris?
Candlelight Walking Tour of Revolutionary War New York
When: Noon
Where: Fraunces Tavern Museum
$15
Fraunces Tavern celebrates its 100th anniversary with an early-morning walking tour of lower Manhattan, led by veteran guide James S. Kaplan.
Armin van Buuren at McCarren Park
When: 4:30–9pm
Where: McCarren Park Pool
$40
The Made party-tossers toss a full-on trance party in the great outdoors, with the Dutch superstar Armin Van Buuren (No. 1 with a bullet in DJ mag's Top 100 DJs poll this year year) inducing a gaggle of young'uns to hands their hands in the air. Even if you're not a trance fan, the sheer spectacle of the event, complete with lasars, video screens and (most likely) a few glowsticks, might make this worth your while. The event will likely sell out, so we'd advise going the advance-ticket route. Go to madeevent.com for more info.
SummerStage: Rachid Taha, Dengue Fever, Apollo Heights
When: 3–7pm
Where: Central Park SummerStage

Two of tonight’s très hip singers are from former French colonies. Even if you don’t understand the languages here (Taha is French-Algerian; Dengue Fever singer Chhom Nimol is Cambodian), you’ll recognize the beats as pure danceable rock.
Folks on the Island: Janis Ian
When: 1:30pm
Where: Governors Island
FREE
Kicking off a season of island-bound folk, old-timer Janis Ian serenades with an independent spirit; so stick it to the Man, or the British, or the guy next to you who’s singing along loudly. Whatever.

The Philharmonic pulls out all the stops for its first concert on Governors Island. The program includes American composer Copland, but wait for the big fireworks finale: Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture performed as it should be, with cannons! That’s seven Civil War–era 800-pound cannons, to be exact.
